2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet Illustrations

These renderings of forthcoming 2010 Audi S5 Cabriolet are the work of a really talented photoshop artist who goes by the nickname “Quinty” Some may remember him from a previous set of A5 Cabriolet chops that we posted earlier this year. Unlike the forthcoming 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible and the current BMW 3-Series Convertible, the new Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolets are expected to use an electric folding canvas top instead of a more complicated and heavier retractable hardtop. -Continued

Power will come from the same engine line-up as the Coupe model with the addition of Audi’s new 3.0-liter supercharged V6 unit that develops 290 HP a maximum torque figure 420 Nm (309.78 lb-ft). Both the A5 and S5 Cabriolets are expected to arrive in the market during the first half of 2009.

Audi A5 Coupe Gets New 180Hp 2.0 TFSI in Place of 170Hp 1.8 TFSI

For those of you that have been closely monitoring the VW Group's moves in the powertrain department the past decade or so, it comes to no surprise that Audi decided to replace the A5 Coupe's entry level 170Hp 1.8 TFSI petrol engine with a new 180Hp 2.0 TFSI unit in less than a year after its introduction.

Derived from the 211Hp version of the turbo charged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder FSI engine introduced earlier this month, the A5 Coupe's new base 2.0 TFSI unit holds a 10Hp power advantage over the 1.8 TFSI, and delivers its peak output 800rpm earlier. Additionally, torque also increases by 70Nm to 320Nm, which is available from 1,500rpm to 3,900rpm. According to Audi, the A5 2.0 TFSI goes from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 7.8 secs and on to a top speed of 238 km/h or 148mph. That's compared to the A5 1.8 TFSI's 8.4 secs and 230 km/h or 143mph. -Continued

Despite the power increase, fuel economy and emission figures have taken a step forward compared with the outgoing model with the A5 2.0 TFSI registering 6.6lt/100km (35.6 MPG US) in the combined cycle (a 0.8lt/100km improvement over the 1.8 TFSI) and emitting 154g/km of CO2 (9 percent reduction).

Audi A5 Cabriolet Scooped Totally Unmasked

Hot on the heels of the A5 Coupe release, Audi is now planning to introduce a four-seater cabriolet variant of the car at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October. We've seen plenty of camouflaged prototypes but British magazine Autopexpress managed to get their hands on the first picture of the A5 Cabriolet completely undisguised. -Continued

As you can see in the image above, Audi chose the canvas roof over the retractable hard-top for the A5 Cabriolet that will rival BMW's 3-Series Coupe-Cabriolet model. Don't expect any surprises under the hood with the Cabriolet receiving the same engine line-up with the A5 Coupe.

Marble Stone Audi S5

Looks like this Russia lad was in a hurry to turn his Audi S5 into an instant classic by applying a film imitating a marble stone. Well, either that or someone was quite handy with photoshop as you never know these days… -More pics after the jump

Audi A5 Sportback: Coming in 2009?

With carmakers searching to cover every single niche, we can’t say that we’re surprised with the Audi A5 Sportback shown here in an artist’s impression from Car magazine. The Brits support that the development of the hybrid coupe-station wagon-hatchback model is well underway with production slated to begin as soon as early 2009.

Slotting between the A4 and the A6, the Sportback depicted here combines styling elements from the A5 Coupe, A4 Sedan and A4 Avant with a low roofline, frameless side windows and a liftback-style slopping tailgate. When (or if - take your pick), the A5 Sportback enters the market it will available with the same turbocharged 4-cylinder 2.0 TFSI and V6 FSi units offered in the A4/A5 models.

Audi A5 Cabriolet Renderings

We still have a year or so before Audi launches the A5 Cabriolet into the market next spring, but a member of the Germancarzone called "Quinty" decided to give us a preview of the car by photoshopping an A5 Coupe into a soft-top convertible. The A5 Convertible is expected to employ the same 4-cylinder, V6 and V8 engines as found in the Coupe with power ranging from 170 Hp for the 1.8TFSI to 355 Hp for the 4.2 V8. -More pics after the jump

Audi A5 3.0 V6 TDI 300 Hp by MTM

MTM’s diesel-powered Audi A5 3.0 V6 TDI (dubbed Thunderbolt) hides some serious punch under its relatively discreet looks. The German tuner enhanced the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel unit’s output from 240 HP to 292 HP and torque from 500Nm to 550Nm through a full 3D software revision that optimizes the engine map.

If your ears are up to the challenge, MTM’s 4-pipe rear muffler can boost power to 300 HP. Even though that’s still 54 HP less than the Audi S5, MTM supports that independently tested at Hockenheim, the supped up A5 3.0 V6 TDI cut the S5’s lap time at the Hockenheim race-track by a clear second. -Continued after the jump

In terms of performance, the MTM-tuned A5 diesel sprints from 0 to 100km/h (62 mph) in 5.9sec while achieving a top speed of 265 km/h (165 mph), 15km/h (9 mph) faster than the standard car.

As with all A5 variations, MTM offers what they call, “a perfectly tuned” coilover suspension which, through altered axle geometry, has a higher camber value. The German tuner also upgrades the A5’s braking system with 8-piston fixed calipers and 380x34mm semi-perforated brake discs. According to MTM, with these brakes, the Audi A5 can stop from 100km/h (62 mph) in 35 meters (115 ft.).

In terms of looks, MTM optimizes the A5 by adding the S5’s radiator grille as well as a rear lower bumper portion combined with 4-pipe rear muffler. In regards to wheels, MTM equips the A5 with a set of 21-inch "bimoto" alloy rims covered 295/25 ZR21 rubber.

Audi A5 by Hofele-Design: Audi R8 Wannabe

Albeit less extreme than the R8 themed bodykit on the TT (see here) that we saw at the Geneva Show last March, Hofele-Design’s proposition for the A5 tries to imitate the lines of Audi’s supercar on both ends of the car. Key word here of course is “tries” – we didn’t say that Hofele-Design actually manages to succeed… However, if this “light” R8 themed bodykit tickles your senses learn that it can be combined with Hofele-Design’s 200-inch alloy wheels “Largo-RS 20” with tires 255/30 R 20. -Continued

Press Release Hofele-Design A5

Audi-tuner Hofele-Design has developed a new design concept for the Audi A5 Coupe. Part of this new design concept are the front & rear bumper made of the high-quality material PKG with big air intakes. The used lamella mesh reminds of the lines of the new Audi R8 and gives the A5 Coupe a more aggressive look. The front was designed more rounder as on the original A5.

Striking are the big oval tailpipes which are integrated into the rear bumper. A flat rear spoiler on the trunk snuggles against the car body. The side skirts with air intakes stretch the sidelines of the car.

As tire-wheel combination the Hofele-Design alloy wheel “Largo-RS 20” in the size 9Jx20 inch is mounted along with tires in the size 255/30 R 20. The chassis is lowered 40mm, the tracks are broadened.

Thanks to an electronically booster kit, the serial output of 240 hp and 500 Nm of the 3.0 TDI can be increased to over 280 hp and 580 Nm. Price of the kit is 1.150,- Euro. An interior concept including carbon, exotic woods and leather is also under development at the moment.

As usual all parts are being mounted to the original points of attachment. This is easy-going, fast and requires no modifications to the car at all. All parts are available this autumn and are of course TÜV approved.

Audi-tuner Hofele-Design is the specialist for all types of Audi especially the luxury-class like A8, Q7 and R8 and has business partners in 21 countries all over the world.
