Shelby Creates Commemorative 1966 Ford GT40 Replica

Celebrating Carroll Shelby’s 85th birthday, Shelby Distribution USA under license from Shelby Licensing and in partnership with Shelby Automobiles Inc. will build a limited run of replicas based on the original Ford GT40 race cars that dominated the Le Mans in 1966 taking the first three places.

Shelby considers these cars “as newly manufactured variants of the original GT40” and as such, the GT40’s chassis is a near-exact replication of the original race car’s monocoque unibody structure down to the pressed steel roof. The only departure is the use of electro-galvanized sheet steel in the construction. The replicas features an original style fully independent suspension system utilizing an unequal length A-arm design. -Continued

Braking is achieved through vented Wilwood super light brakes with both front and rear brakes feature 12.75” discs and 4-piston calipers. Original style 15-inch Halibrand wheels are wrapped with high performance BFGoodrich g-Force Drag Radial tires (225/50/15 front, 275/60/15 rear). The commemorative replicas will be equipped only with a Shelby branded engine, including the top of the line Shelby 427FE V8.

Avro’s Limited Production 720 Hp Mirage Ford GT

Avro Motor Cars, a Brooklands-based supercar specialist, has joined forces with Roush Technologies in the UK to create a special edition version of the Ford GT that boasts a significant range of engine and mechanical upgrades. The Avro 720 Mirage Ford GT’s production will be limited to just 10 cars – the first of which has just been rolled out of Roush’s Technical Centre in Brentwood, Essex.

The Roush Technologies’ engineering team applied a custom calibration package to the Ford GT’s V8 engine that includes a larger supercharger, an Accufab throttle body and inlet sleeve and an Accufab X pipe exhaust system with ceramic-coated tips. The result is an output of 720 Hp at 6,950rpm and a massive 815Nm (627lb.ft.) of torque available at 4,800rpm. The GT is also derestricted, which gives a top speed capability in excess of 220mph (354km/h). -Continued

To compensate for the power boost, the running gear on the Avro 720 Mirage has been appropriately upgraded. The front and rear track is 5mm wider than the standard car while the suspension has been lowered by 25mm – and uprated to include KW’s Variant 3 fully adjustable coil-over system. Finally, the front brakes use AP Racing 6-pot front callipers with Stillen drilled and slotted rotors – and similar rotors are used also at the rear.

Appearance-wise, the Avro’s 720 Mirage Ford GT is finished in vibrant Arancia Metallica (Italian Metallic Orange) with semi-matt black details and wheels combined with exclusive sill plates and side decals. Additionally, the rear bumper has been removed – partly to save weight – and each car will carry an exclusive numbered Avro plaque on the centre tunnel.

Avro Managing Director, Andy McGrath says, “When we created the highly successful Roush 600RE edition, we recognised the potential in the car to go a step further. The Ford GT is already a rare and sought after motorcar and simply identifying and locating more available untitled vehicles has been a significant challenge for us. The 720 Mirage is available exclusively from Avro – and once these cars are completed, we believe there will be no more. Examples of our 600RE edition are now located in several parts of the world – and we expect the market response to the 720 Mirage to be similarly international.”

Roush Europe Launches the Ford GT based 600RE

Ford might have finished the GT's career but that doesn’t seem to bother the tuning-world. So after the Edo Competition GT, Roush Europe came out with a super-limited edition of Ford’s retro-looking supercar, available in just 10 units from “Avro Motor Cars” based at the historic Brooklands site in Surrey. Dubbed 600RE, Roush’s black-beauty boasts a number of features including an engine upgrade raising power and torque (though Roush doesn’t give any figures) along with a few subtle visual improvements like the sexy black powder coated rims. –Press Release after the jump

Ford GT tuned by Edo Competition

To be honest, when it comes to future classics like the Ford GT, I’m totally against any kind of tuning however "innocent" they may seem. But hey, that’s just me. Anyway, the German tuner’s GT pack includes a bit of mechanical fiddling with the addition of a new sport catalyst and reworked electronic management which pushes out from 550Hp to 610Hp @ 6.500 rpm and maximum torque to an impressive 800 Nm @ 4.500. –Continued: Click “Read More…” below

The 0 to 62mph (100 km/h) sprint now comes in 3,7 sec, thus shaving 0,2 sec off the stock version while the speedometer stops at 340 km/h / 211mph (stock: 330km/h - 205mph). Edo Competition also interferer’s with the GT’s appearance adding carbon-fiber engine bay paneling, a new rear spoiler, different alloy’s etc.
