Man Wants to Save the Planet by Destroying a $60,000 Range Rover…

In 2006, Ryan Mickle bought a $60,000+ Range Rover Sport mainly due a huge tax write off for heavy SUVs –or at least he says, to use for a short commute and weekly trips with friends. Two years later and having moved back to San Francisco, Ryan decided that he didn’t need a car anymore. But while most people would just put the Range Rover up for sale, “environmentally-conscious” Ryan decided to destroy his Landie so it would permanently stop polluting and using excessive quantities of gasoline. To do so, Ryan launched a website called “OneFewer” where online voters will decide the fate of his car.

Our take? First of all, if he wants to destroy his car, he can do so without opening up a website and making a whole fuss about it – unless he’s seeking for his 15 minutes of fame. There are other ways, less provocative (how long do you have to work to make $60k?) to convince people in becoming more environmentally conscious. If he wants to do something good for the environment he can sell the car and donate the money to a “green” organization or use the cash to make his house more energy-efficient. -Continued

We won’t even touch the subject about the harm he can cause to the environment if by chance the online voters decide to burn the Range Rover or throw it over a cliff into the wild…

Arden Range Rover AR7 with 520Hp Twin-Supercharged V8

Arden’s latest development is the AR7 based on the Range Rover that features a series of mechanical and aesthetic upgrades. For starters, the German tuning firm enlarged the capacity of the Range Rover’s V8 engine from 4.2 to 4.5-liters and added a high performance twin screw supercharger. The V8’s output has been increased to an ample 520Hp with a maximum torque of 680Nm or 501.5 lbs-ft. Despite the impressive output, the AR7 manages a mediocre 6.5 sec for the 0 - 100 km/h (0-62mph) sprint. For example, the stock Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 5.5 sec. -Continued

In addition to the mechanical upgrades, Arden has dressed the Range Rover with a tasteful bodykit that includes a wide front apron with LED daytime running lights, wheel arch extensions, side skirts and a newly developed rear apron that incorporates a new set of rectangular tailpipes. The AR7’s looks are complemented by new 22 or 23-inch forged alloy wheels.

Finally, the AR7’s interior has been dressed in leather and alcantara that can be ordered in any colour desired while there are also a wide variety of high-grade woods, chrome, carbon and aluminium applications for the dash and the door trims.

Range Rover Stormer Concept Replica: On Sale in Dubai for $450,000

They’ve built a world of islands in the sea so we can’t say that we’re surprised with the 2004 Range Rover Stormer Concept replica that was created by the folks over at West Coast Customs Dubai. Story has it that a scion of Dubai royal family liked the concept car so much that he had West Coast Customs transform a Range Rover Sport into the Stormer.

Unfortunately for his Royal Highness, WCC liked the idea so much that they built a few more. Now, one of those replicas has found its way on Autotrader Dubai (…) where it is up for sale. But just like everything else in Dubai, the Stormer replica doesn’t come cheap as it is being sold for a mind blowing 1,650,000 AED or about $450,000. -More pics after the jump

Bowler Nemesis: 500Hp Beast Based On The Range Rover Sport

The Nemesis is the work of British Off-Road specialist Bowler and
it’s developed to take on the world's most hardcore rallies, such as the Dakar. The Bowler Nemesis is based on the Range Rover Sport from which it borrows about 40 percent of its components. That includes the Range Rover’s 4.2-liter supercharged V8 that produces in stock form 385 Hp. Bowler however, converted the fuel system from petrol to E85 bio-ethanol and remapped the engine management system increasing output to over 500Hp. Of course such a beast doesn’t come for cheap as Bowler charges $244,000 or 173,000 for a complete Nemesis.

Range Rover Sport Vesuvius by Project Kahn

While we wouldn’t go as far as calling it “God damn hot”, we do find the Project Khan prepped Range Rover Sport, interesting. Then again, we find Carrot Top interesting, but that doesn’t mean we’d actually go and pay to see him perform, if you get our drift. So, now that we’ve gracefully made our point on the Vesuvius’ appearance let’s see what Project Khan has done to the Range Rover Sport. -Continued after the jump

First of all, the U.K. based tuning house has fitted Range Rover’s luxury SUV with a full bodykit to. It includes a front spoiler, wide arches, rear apron, boot spoiler and additional rear lip spoiler, Kahn side vents and front grille, Kahn stainless exhaust System and Project Kahn Body Badges. Additionally, the Vesuvius gets a bi-colour paintjob (orange bonnet and roof in case you missed it) and Kahn 22” RS-X Forged Wheels & Tyres.

Inside, the bi-colour theme is continued in the quilted perforated seats, centre box and door panels. In addition, the pentagon tinted window glass covers the push button engine start, cream instrument dials and colour reverse camera.

Finally, just to make sure that you’re friends know that you own a Vesuvius, a Vesuvius wristwatch comes free with the purchase of the car. Carrot Top, eat your head...

Correction: 2008 Range Rover

Earlier today, I posted up an article on the revised 2008 Range Rover. As some of you correctly pointed out in your e-mails and as I discovered, the press release I picked up from another site (unfortunately, without double-checking it), concerned last year’s update and not the current revision. We certainly don’t like hiding behind our computers so I decided to do the honest thing and come forward admitting my mistake and consequently, posting up the correct press release with the matching pictures. We thank everybody who sent us an e-mail. - John @ Carscoop

So according to the correct... press release, the 2008 Range Rover features minor revisions including among other things, the addition of a four-zone air conditioning, a redesigned rear seat armrest that provides extra stowage space, new tread-plates and revised graphics on the touch-screen and instruments. -Follow the jump for the press-release

NEW FEATURES FOR THE RANGE ROVER, TO CONTINUE STRONG SALES MOMENTUM

Enhancements to the Range Rover for 2008 add a series of further luxury touches and practical new features, including four-zone air conditioning. The improvements are expected to help maintain the strong market performance of the Range Rover, with sales in the first four months of 2007 already 19% up worldwide over last year.

"That increase is largely due to the huge popularity of the acclaimed TDV8 diesel that we introduced to the Range Rover line-up last year," says Phil Popham, Land Rover's managing director. "The engine's great combination of performance and fuel economy has not only powered overall Range Rover sales, but also shifted our diesel/petrol mix, especially in Europe. Most Range Rover customers who would previously have bought a V8 petrol now choose a TDV8 instead, which offers petrol-like refinement but with 32% better fuel economy."

The list of changes for 2008 is headed by the introduction of four-zone air conditioning, which enables rear seat passengers to control their individual heating and ventilation. This is neatly complemented with 'climate control' windscreen and side glass which is now available in conjunction with automatic rain and headlight sensing. The special glass cuts infrared heat transmission into the vehicle, reducing heat build up when the vehicle is parked in the sun, for example, so allowing the air conditioning to function faster and more effectively on drive away.

A redesigned rear seat armrest provides extra stowage space (including a dedicated location for the optional rear seat entertainment remote control) and there is additional leather trim on the heating and ventilation unit and centre console. There are now a total of seven real wood veneers to choose from, all sourced from sustainable forests, and additional wood veneer elements have been applied to the rear of the centre console. A matching wooden gear knob has also been introduced on some models.

The attention to detail extends to new tread-plates and revised graphics on the touch-screen and instruments. A new interior colour becomes available, called Storm, as well as two new exterior colours, Alaska White and Lucerne Green, and a fresh set of "designers' choices" for recommended interior and exterior combinations. There is also a new, highly polished 20" alloy wheel design.

"We are keeping the Range Rover offering fresh with regular changes: some are major, like the TDV8 engine last year – which, incidentally, will now be badged on the back of the vehicle – while others are about the detail, such as those coming in for 2008," says Phil Popham. "And this approach seems to have continuing appeal for our customers, as we're on track for one of our best ever sales years with the Range Rover."

Range Rover Vogue Security Vehicle: Land Rover announces its first armoured production model

Now this is what I call a bulletproof warranty -literally. Developed by Land Rover Special Vehicles and Armour Holdings Group, the Range Rover Vogue Security Vehicle can cope -depending on which of the four available versions, attacks by hand-guns, assault rifles or high velocity rifle right up to armor piercing weapons. Due to the armored vehicle’s excessive weight that can reach 3.5 tons, Land Rover called upon Prodrive to retune the air suspension, chassis and braking systems. Land Rover hasn’t announced pricings on its first attempt in the armoured vehicle market, but don’t expect any cheap thrills here… -Continued: Click “Read More…” below to see the official press release & more pics

PRESS RELEASE

It looks just like any other new Range Rover Vogue, but beneath the skin it's a very different story. To provide the ultimate in occupant safety, this Range Rover Vogue goes well beyond the capabilities of air bags and seat belt pre-tensioners.

Fully armoured, it has been designed to resist attack from machine gun or hand grenade while its four-wheel drive chassis and off-road ground clearance allows a quick getaway from attack or ambush. Unlike conventional armoured limousines, the Range Rover Vogue Security Vehicle can be driven across all terrains, including unforgiving urban obstacles like high kerbs or even steep steps. Its broad shouldered strength also allows it to be driven at and through obstacles such as gates or even walls.

In an attack, the Range Rover Vogue's armour and its go anywhere ability can literally mean the difference between life and death.

Developed by Land Rover Special Vehicles as an integral part of the new Range Rover Vogue programme, the Range Rover Vogue Security Vehicle is the first armoured Land Rover vehicle to be offered as a production model. In future, there will be greater availability of other armoured Land Rover products as well as high security models from other marques in the Premier Automotive Group, all developed to the same exacting standards.

The new high security Range Rover Vogue will be available to four levels of security, the first three offering protection from attack by hand-gun, assault rifle or high velocity rifle.

The ultimate version provides protection against armour piercing to European B6 plus standard, and is capable of withstanding attack from a NATO 7.62 ball round fired from 10 metres at a typical velocity of 830 metres per second. B6 plus standard, favoured by Heads of State and other diplomatic, political and religious 'targets', also protects against attack by weapons including the Kalashnikov AK47 rifle.

Also available will be a Range Rover Vogue Security Vehicle built to B4 standard, which protects against attack from a .44 Magnum handgun using flat nose, full metal jacket, soft core ammunition at a typical velocity of 440 metres per second.

On all vehicles, the floor pan is protected to defeat the simultaneous detonation of two DM51 hand grenades rolled in its path. Improved protection to L2A2 hand grenade level is available as an option.

Armouring materials used range from ballistic and blast steel to carbon weave materials such as Kevlar as well as non-metallic materials such as Spectra-shield and Dyneema. The glass is plasma cut, fixed on all four doors and up to 40mm thick to withstand attack - the thickness of the glass is virtually the only visual external clue to an armoured Range Rover Vogue.

Great attention to detail ensures that occupants will not be affected by 'splash', the term given to shrapnel - often molten metal - that can penetrate the body via potentially vulnerable spots such as door shuts or handles and injure or kill occupants. Overlaps on doors are specially designed to prevent splash entering the passenger compartment.

Added protection has been given to the vehicle's fuel tank and battery while the tyres all have run flat capability. A heavy duty jack and strengthened jacking points are also fitted.

Development work has been carried out by Land Rover Special Vehicles working closely with one of the world's leading armouring specialist companies, Armour Holdings Group, that includes O'Gara Hess and Labbe. Testing of the vehicle's armouring is being carried out by QinetiQ, an independent scientific company that was formally an integral part of DERA, the British Government's Defence Establishment Research Agency.

Adding as much as two tons of armour takes the vehicle's all-up weight to nearly 3.5 tons. To ensure that it still behaves like a Range Rover Vogue, vehicle development experts Prodrive Ltd have extensively retuned the air suspension, chassis and braking systems to cope with the extra weight and the demands likely to be placed on the Range Rover Vogue.

A comprehensive list of options takes the protection offered by the Range Rover Vogue Security Vehicle to even greater levels. They include an internal oxygen system, darkened glass and an intercom. Covert emergency lights and a siren are also available. Other options are available to meet customer's specific requirements.
