Pininfarina Hyperion Rolls Royce Cabriolet: New Image Gallery

Pininfarina HyperionItalian design house and coachbuilder Pininfarina presented the Hyperion at the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach in California. The one-off custom-built car that is derived from the Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe was named after Hyperion, one of the Titans of Greek mythology. The Hyperion was created for collector Roland Hall who asked Pininfarina to design a custom-built car that would evoke the appeal of the lavish cars of the 1930s. Or at least that was the Italian coachbuilder’s intent as we find the Hyperion looks a bit too gaudy - like something that came out of the Thunderbird TV series. Of course that’s our personal take so feel free to disagree.

Pininfarina HyperionUnder the skin, while the Hyperion maintains the Drophead Coupe’s 6.75-liter V12 engine, Pininfarina moved the driving position further back (400 mm), took out the rear seats, extended the roof and shortened the rear end. The bodywork is made of carbon fibre with the exception of the doors that are made out of solid wood by craftsmen who specialize in creating components for luxury boats. -Continued

The Italian firm also designed a new hood, which folds behind the seats under a wood-lined cover. In front of the windscreen Pininfarina created two compartments for small items or for sports equipment.

The interior of the car is practically unchanged, as the only addition concerns a new watch that was designed specifically for the Hyperion by Girard-Perregaux. Interestingly, the watch can be removed from the dash and attached to a bracelet to be worn on the wrist.

Pininfarina Hyperion: New High-Res Image Gallery

Pininfarina HyperionLove it or loathe it, this is Pininfarina’s latest creation that is based on the Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe. Although we’d like to see the Hyperion in real life before we make any conclusions, we must say that these official renderings make us wonder if Pininfarina has lost its touch. In any case, the Hyperion which was created as a one-off for an unnamed wealthy car collector, will make its official debut the Concours d’Elegance classic car show at Pebble Beach in California on August 17th. Pininfarina hasn’t released any details yet, but expect the Hyperion to use the same 6.75-litre V12 engine as the Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe. -Image gallery after the jump

Rolls Royce Silver... Bullitt with 1040 Hp Hemi V8

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that this kitschy Silver Shadow isn’t your typical chauffeur driven Rolls Royce. The custom made limo is equipped with a 592 Hemi V8 that with the help of a dual stage nitrous system pumps out a mouthwatering 1040Hp. Leaving aside the pimp-my-Impala steering wheel, another interesting detail is the roll cage that’s wrapped around with leather and contrast stitching. -More photos after the jump

Pininfarina Hyperion Based on Rolls Royce DropHead Coupe

Italian design house Pininfarina has revealed a teaser sketch of an all new project built for an unnamed private collector that will be unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours classic car show in Monterey, California, this August. The project, named “Pininfarina Hyperion”, is a convertible model based on the Rolls Royce Drophead Coupè. According to Pininfarina, the Hyperion’s design will pay homage to the great pre war cars. This isn't the first time that Pininfarina has built a one off special model. As many might remember, last year the Italian design house created the Ferrari P4/5 based on the Enzo for private car collector James Glickenhaus.

Rolls Royce RR4: Official Sketches of Baby Phantom

These are the first official sketches of Roll Royce’s new entry-level model, the RR4 luxury sedan that will sit right below the Phantom in the British marque’s range. Due to be launched in 2010, the RR4 will be smaller than Phantom and powered by a new engine, that will be unique to Rolls-Royce. The RR4 is believed to share many common components –including the platform- with the next generation BMW 7-Series. According to Rolls Royce, further design and engineering details will be announced during the course of 2009. -Continued

Chief designer, Ian Cameron, said, “Effortless performance and standard-setting levels of comfort and efficiency, executed with the utmost care and attention, remain fundamentals of Rolls-Royce design. The RR4 has a more informal presence than the Phantom models with a greater emphasis on driving. In design terms this is expressed through its slightly smaller dimensions and more organic form, yet with powerful, purposeful proportions. It is a true and uncompromising Rolls-Royce in every sense.”

“RR4 will mark a milestone in the history of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars,” Chairman, Ian Robertson added. “The business continues to go from strength to strength and the introduction of this new model will expand the appeal of the brand. We look forward to this next chapter with anticipation and confidence.”

Only in Switzerland: Rolls Royce Station Wagon

Our friend Daniel C. spotted this custom made Rolls Royce Station Wagon (from what we can tell, it’s based on the Park Ward), somewhere in the Swiss city of Lausanne and he quickly took a picture of it with his cell-phone -hence the low quality picture. Now, why someone would actually go into all that trouble to transform a Rolls into something that looks as hideous as this, is beyond us. -Merci for the pic Daniel!

Geneva Video: 2009 Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe

Rolls-Royce unveiled its first all-new coupe for over three decades, the new Phantom Coupé at the 78th International Geneva Motor Show. Production of the new car will start at Goodwood in the summer of 2008. The ultra-luxurious coupe will be powered by the Phantom’s 6.75-litre V12, producing 453 Hp and 720 Nm or 531 lb-ft of torque. Family Ties: 1993 Rolls Royce Park Ward - Phantom Replica

Before we read the description of this car on eBay, we thought it was a heavily “pimped” version of the latest Rolls Royce Phantom. Turns out though that this limo a replica of the 2007 Phantom based on a 1993 Rolls Royce Park Ward. The seller supports that the body panels where replaced with 2007 Rolls Phantom parts and that the whole project took a total of 18 months to complete.

Inside however, the Phantom replica retains the Park Ward/Silver Spur interior with the addition of the usual amenities you find in a limousine like touch screen DVD, pull down TVs, a refrigerator, a bar and privacy partition glass for the rear passengers. Interesting but not to the point that it justifies the $280 (buy now price) that the seller is asking for it on eBay… -More pics after the jump
